What is Chadwick Boseman’s Net Worth?

Chadwick Boseman's net worth

Most people know Chadwick Boseman from the hit Marvel film Black Panther, however, it is not the first acting gig he’s had. How has his career leading up to Black Panther impacted Chadwick Boseman’s net worth?

About Chadwick Boseman

Boseman was born on November 29, 1977, in South Carolina. His mother was a nurse and his father worked at a textile factory. He also ran his own upholstery business. In his junior year of high school, he wrote and staged his first play called Crossroads.

After graduating, Boseman went to Howard University in Washington, D.C. He completed his college education in 2000 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in directing. During his time in college, he was able to attend the Oxford Mid-Summer Program of the British American Drama Academy in London.  At first, he began studying acting to better relate to actors so he could write and direct.

At first, he lived in Brooklyn and worked as an instructor at the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture in Harlem. He landed his first television role on an episode of Third Watch. After that, he received roles in Law & Order, CSI: NY, and ER. During this time, he also continued to write. His play Deep Azure was nominated for a Joseph Jefferson Award in 2006. Two years later, he decided to relocate to Los Angeles to focus on his career.

Breaking Into Hollywood

After moving, he got a recurring role on the television show Lincoln Heights. He also appeared in his first film, The Express: The Ernie Davis Story, that year. In 2010, he received another recurring role on the TV series Persons Unknown.

It wasn’t until 2013 that Boseman landed his first starring role in a film though. He played Jackie Robinson in 42. During this time, he was considering abandoning his acting career and focusing more on directing. However, 42 got him back on the big screen and around the same time, he appeared in the movie The Kill Hole.

After that, Boseman’s film career really started to pick up. In 2014, he acted alongside Kevin Costner in Draft Day and also played the role of James Brown in Get On Up. Two years later, he landed a starring role in Gods of Egypt.

Boseman was also given the role of Black Panther in 2016 – his biggest role yet. Not only did Black Panther have a stand-alone movie, but Boseman has appeared in several other Marvel films as the character as well. T’Challa also appeared in Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. Each of those films has been huge, but what has it done for Boseman’s wealth?

Chadwick Boseman’s Net Worth: $8 Million

The actor has stated previously he prayed for the role in Black Panther. His faith has done quite a lot for his net worth because it now sits at $8 million, most of which has stemmed from his role in the Marvel films. Below is how much each of the films has made in the box office.

  • Captain America: Civil War – $408 million
  • Black Panther – $700 million
  • Avengers: Infinity War – $678 million
  • Avengers: Endgame – $858 million

Now, here’s how much Boseman made for each of his appearances as Black Panther.

  • Captain America: Civil War – $700,000
  • Black Panther – $2 million, with $500,000 upfront
  • Avengers: Infinity War – at least $2 million, plus a percentage of profits
  • Avengers: Endgame – at least $2 million, plus a percentage of profits.

His other roles in non-Marvel films paid out between $300,000 and $550,000 each. Because many of his other appearances have been relatively small roles, Boseman has accrued most of his wealth by playing Black Panther. But how much of that is liquid cash? Has he sunk any of his money into assets or investments?

Assets, Endorsements, and Investments

Boseman purchased a Lexus LC 500h ($150,000) in 2018, which contributes a small amount to his overall wealth.  It was the first purchase he made after receiving his Black Panther check. He also appeared in a commercial for the vehicle, which undoubtedly assisted in paying his car note.

The actor has also endorsed other brands like Adidas and other footwear brands. Boseman has also modeled for companies like Esquire and The Hollywood Reporter. On top of that, his social media following is huge, which can help him earn up to $23,000 for a single social media promotion.

Outside of his luxury sports car and endorsements, Boseman does not have any assets or investments that contribute to his overall net worth. He resides in Los Angeles most of the time but does not own his own home. He is also unmarried but is in a committed relationship with fellow star Taylor Simone Ledward. The couple has dated since 2015 but shares no property or assets.

Because he landed such a well-loved role early on, his net worth will likely only continue to rise in the years to come. It will be interesting to see what the next huge role Boseman will play and how much it will earn him.
