How to Upgrade Your Bedroom Cheaply

When you spend time in your bedroom, you should feel comfortable and relaxed. If your bedroom doesn’t provide great vibes, it may be time to upgrade it. You can complete this type of project cheaply by following a few easy steps.

Invest in a New Mattress

A mattress is basically the centerpiece of the bedroom, so you should focus all initial upgrades efforts on it. The first thing that you must consider is your mattress’s age. If the mattress is seven to 10 years old, it may be time to replace it if it no longer provides comfort and support throughout the night.

You’ll feel totally refreshed and energized each morning on a new mattress because a better mattress provides health benefits. For example, it will arrive clean and fresh, so its surfaces will trigger no allergic reactions while you’re sleeping. Also, on a new mattress, you’ll sleep more consistently at night, which is important because many doctors believe that the lack of quality sleep can negatively impact the immune system.

Put Printed Materials on the Wall

Printed materials are very sleek, stylish, and affordable, and they work well in a vintage or modern bedroom. They basically have a picture or an artistic design on a clean background inside of a frame. On a bedroom wall, a printed image is never distracting because it makes a bedroom look like an art gallery.

When shopping for printed materials, always consider the color of the frame as it must provide contrast. If your wall is a light color, pick a frame that’s darker because it will make the printed material pop.

Put an Elegant Lamp by the Bed

An elegant table lamp provides two benefits in a bedroom. It gives a bedside table flair, and it projects soft lighting by the bed. If you’re looking for a cheap designer lamp under $25, one of the following lamps is worth considering:

  • A glass lamp: A glass lamp is very reflective and stylish. However, after you buy one, you’ll have to protect it since its base is fragile.
  • A ceramic lamp: Ceramic material is brittle and hard, so it doesn’t break easily. If a glass lamp seems too bland, a ceramic lamp is ideal since ceramic material is available in various colors.

Incorporate Mood Lighting

A bedroom upgrade project isn’t complete without some sort of mood lighting. This type of lighting is a luxury because it gives you the ability to change the look of your bedroom whenever you want. You can incorporate mood lighting by using

  • An adjustable switch: An adjustable dimmer switch is compatible with a lighting system that uses LED, CFL, halogen, or incandescent bulbs. A basic switch has multiple lighting levels for different moods. To add a switch, you must be comfortable working with electrical wiring.
  • A dimmer plug: If you don’t have wiring skills, a dimmer plug is a great alternative. Most plugs will work with any lamp that uses a halogen or incandescent light bulb.

Use Decorative Pillow Covers

The process of incorporating decorative pillow covers in a design scheme is an art. If you arrange them properly, they will complement everything else in the bedroom.

Begin by picking a cover that has a cohesive color scheme. Avoid complicated patterns and textures because they will throw off the design scheme in your bedroom. You must pick a cover that has up to two patterns and a symmetrical arrangement.

When you’re ready to lay out the pillows, place the biggest pillows along the edge of the bed. To avoid clutter, never incorporated more than five decorative pillows in the entire bedroom.
