A name you probably have heard in a while is releasing another album in 2020. That’s right Gordon Lightfoot is releasing an album called Solo this year. Fans haven’t heard from him in years, so what’s new with him, and what is Gordon Lightfoot’s net worth?

About Gordon Lightfoot

Gordon Meredith Lightfoot Jr. was born in 1938 in Canada. His mother recognized his musical talent as a child and nurtured it. He made his first appearance on stage in the fourth grade. Throughout school, he continued to find ways to perform for others. It wasn’t until 1962 he began releasing singles and the rest is history.

The singer-songwriter has achieved international success as a folk and country music artist. In fact, Lightfoot is credited with defining folk-pop in the 60s and 70s. Folk-rock fans consider him to be somewhat of a legend. Many of his singles hit the U.S. Hot 100. Some of them include Black Day in July, (Remember Me) I’m the One, For Lovin’ Me, Ribbon of Darkness,  If You Could Read My Mind, Sundown, Carefree Highway, Rainy Day People, Early Morning Rain, Steel Rail Blues, and The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald.

Those are only a few of his singles that reached charts around the world. Several of his albums also achieved gold as well as multi-platinum status globally. His songs have also be recorded by several of music’s greatest artists, like Johnny Cash, Elvis Pressley, Oliva Newton-John, and Hank Williams Jr. Many of the performers who work with him choose to do so over and over again, with partnerships spanning 45+ years.

In 2020, Gordon Lightfoot’s net worth sits around $30 million. That may be surprising when you consider most of the artist’s most popular work was done in the 1960s and 1970s. However, Lightfoot has been able to find ways to stay relevant.

Much of his wealth has stemmed directly from performances, tours, and album sales. He has also written and helped produce music with other artists, which he has been able to earn money through. Other artists have also covered his songs, which he is paid royalties for. Outside of that, Lightfoot does not have any endorsement deals or partnerships adding to his wealth. There is no information available regarding his investments.

Believe it or not, Lightfoot has a few celebrity neighbors in Toronto, including Canadian rapper Drake. Homes in the area are valued around $7 million. So, it is safe to say that contributes to his overall net worth.

Lightfoot has been married three times and has five children, most of whom are grown. Like any other separation or divorce, there is some financial burden for Lightfoot, but it doesn’t hurt his finances too much. He is currently married to Kim Hasse. The couple has been married since December 2014.

For now, Lightfoot is still touring the world at 80 years old. There is no sign of him slowing down any time soon. As soon as COVID travel restrictions are lifted, he will be back on the road again.
