Chiwetel Ejiofor’s Personal Life

His original given name is Chiwetelu Umeadi Ejiofor. He was born in Forest Gate, London on July 10, 1977. His parents were both medical professionals from Nigeria. They are from the Igbo culture of Nigeria but their region collapsed due to the Biafran War so his parents ended up in London.

Chiwetel is the second of four siblings. His younger sister, Zain Asher is well-known as a CNN news correspondent. According to Answers Africa, his other sister followed in their parents’ footsteps and became a doctor.

When he was 11 years old, he was in a car accident that killed his father. Ejiofor still has scars on his forehead from that event. He spent two months in the hospital recovering. They had been visiting Nigeria at the time of the accident. However, his mother was at home in London — pregnant with one of his younger siblings.

He started acting on stage a couple of years later. Although acting has been his primary creative outlet, he also sang backup vocals in a band in his teens. As far as his education, he attended Dulwich College and then the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts (LAMDA). However, he left the latter after the first year because that’s when he got “discovered” and went to make the film “Amistad.”

Dating and Marriage

Chiwetel Ejiofor is not married. He’s been linked to several prominent women over the years. He dated British actress Naomie Harris for about seven years. Like him, she’s named an Officer of the Order of the British Empire. They split up in 2007.

Five years later, Ejiofor was rumored to be dating his “12 Years a Slave” co-star Lupita Nyong’o. However, that’s never been confirmed or denied. The following year, he was romantically linked with Canadian actress Sari Mercer, but only for a brief period of time.

In 2015, he began dating Australian model Frances Aaternir.

His parents were Methodist ministers in Arkansas. The third of four boys, he and his siblings were in a drama club in high school. He joined a few competitions where he, in 1996, won first place for solo acting in the state of Arkansas.

Wes Bentley’s Drug Issues and Scandals

Since finding fame quite early with the movie “American Beauty,” Wes Bentley turned to drug use and has had a problem with addiction.

He got divorced from his wife at the time, Jennifer Quanz, and lived on his own. He then binged on drugs and used all the proceeds from his movie earnings from the late ’90s to mid-2000s to buy heroin, leaving him broke.

The first time he went to rehab was from a court order due to an arrest in 2008. Before then, his cast mates in the movies he was acting in had conflicts with him, causing additional tension to the filming.

After his first stint in rehab, he then relapsed and went back to taking drugs until he reached out for help from a friend. He has since gone to another rehab facility, which was successful in his rehabilitation, and has been clean ever since.

On top of the drug addiction, Wes Bentley had issues with alcoholism, both of which were attributed to him being suddenly famous after American Beauty came out. Alcohol and drugs became his emotional way of coping with the struggles that came with fame.

Career Rebuilding

Since dropping to his career-low during his addiction, he’s taken on roles in Off-Broadway plays such as “Venus in Fur” to rebuild his career.
