About Ryan Ashley Malarkey
Malarkey was born on April 29, 1987, in northeast Pennsylvania. As a child, she was always drawn to the arts. She graduated from the Fashion Institute of Technology in 2007 with a degree in Fashion Design. Additionally, she was the Critic’s Choice award winner of her class.
After graduation, she went to live in New York City. She worked as a designer and artist for a private label clothing company while living there. In 2011, she left the city to return home and pursue tattooing full-time.
Then she became an apprentice at a private studio for one year before opening her own shop. Currently, she co-owns and operated The Strange & Unusual Oddities Parlor in Kingston, Pa. Her tattoo studio is private and she only takes customers by appointment. The studio doubles as a store for odd items such as baboon busts, bug collections, and occult trappings.
Ink Master
When Malarkey landed a spot in Season 8 of Ink Master is when her career really blew up. She was the first female to ever win the competition.
After winning, she became one of the stars to appear on the spin-off show Ink Master: Angels. The show also stars three other competitors from Season 8 of Ink Master: Kelly Doty, Gia Rose, and Nikki Simpson. The four women tour the country and hold tattoo competitions in different cities. This allows local artists to showcase their skills as well, competing for a spot on the next season of Ink Master.
Recognition and Awards
In addition to her work on Ink Masters and its spinoff, Malarkey was featured in Inked Magazine’s June/July 2015 issue as well as the same issue of Freshly Inked. She has also earned a number of awards related to her work as a tattoo artist.
