About Katherine Langford
As I mentioned above, Katherine Langford is best known for her role as Hannah Baker in Netflix’s 13 Reasons Why. Many people don’t know that Langford is actually an Australian actress. She was born on April 29, 1996, in Perth (Western Australia). Langford is the oldest of two. Her sister, Josephine, is also an actress.
In 2005, she began taking voice lessons and was later offered a spot at Perth Modern School, which is where she attended high school. During her time there, she was also a sports captain and was a nationally ranked swimmer.
After graduating, Langford was focused on becoming an actress. At first, she was rejected by every single acting school she applied to. According to them, she was too young and didn’t have enough experience. So, she starting taking acting classes and held down three part-time jobs to make ends meet.
She was accepted to Principal Academy of Dance & Theatre Arts and attended from 2014 to 2015, majoring in Music Theatre. After a year at the school, she was asked to participate in the 2015 National Institute of Dramatic Arts Advanced Actors Residency. Langford intended on attending college at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts but decided to begin pursuing acting roles instead.
The Start of Her Career
The young actress got her start in a number of independent small films, which included Story of Miss Oxygen (2015), Imperfect Quadrant (2016), and Daughter (2016). Later in 2016, she auditioned for a television series role that she did not receive, but that didn’t stop her.
Langford landed her role as Hannah Baker after auditioning via Skype. She’d never worked in the United States before and only have 10 days to get her O-1 visa to start filming. But, she made it work. Langford did quite a bit of research for her role in the Netflix series, for which she has received a Golden Globe nomination.
Following her work on the first two seasons of the show, Langford went on to appear in her first feature film, The Misguided. She was also cast in a role in the film Love, Simon. In October 2018, Langford was cast in The Avengers: Endgame, however, the footage including her didn’t make the cut.
Even though Avengers wasn’t the big break she might’ve been hoping for, she has continued to land roles in small films and TV series. So, what has all of this done for her wealth?
Katherine Langford’s Net Worth: $5 Million
Her net worth landed her on The Richest’s List of Richest Netflix Actors Under 25. Currently, Katherine Langford’s net worth is estimated to sit around $5 million. Considering her largest role so far has been that of Hannah Baker, that’s pretty impressive.
Langford’s estimated annual salary sits at $1 million. According to Seventeen, some of the other actors on the show were only bringing in up to $200,000 per episode. Many of the other stars of the show also only have net worth estimates of about $1 million. So, how is Langford earning more?
Other Work and Assets
About $2 million of her total net worth can be contributed to her work on 13 Reasons Why. She was paid $1 million per season, much less than her costars. This only translates to about $75,000 per episode for the first two seasons. She announced in 2018 she would not be returning for the third season. That may have been a mistake though because most of the cast received significant raises.
Outside of cash she has made from her acting career, Langford doesn’t have any additional sources of income adding to her net worth. She hasn’t yet taken on any sponsors or endorsement deals. Because she is still so young, she also hasn’t purchased a home or any assets contributing to her wealth. That’s not to say that won’t change in the future as she becomes more well-known and lands more work.
She’s certainly not hurting for work by any means. Langford has gone on to star in a new Netflix production called Cursed. It is not yet certain how much she’ll make for her role but you can only expect to continue to see her earnings rise in the years to come.
