The singer-songwriter has achieved international success as a folk and country music artist. In fact, Lightfoot is credited with defining folk-pop in the 60s and 70s. Some of them include Black Day in July, (Remember Me) I’m the One, For Lovin’ Me, Ribbon of Darkness, If You Could Read My Mind, Sundown, Carefree Highway, Rainy Day People, Early Morning Rain, Steel Rail Blues, and The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald.
Those are only a few of his singles that reached charts around the world. Several of his albums also achieved gold as well as multi-platinum status globally. His songs have also be recorded by several of music’s greatest artists, like Johnny Cash, Elvis Pressley, Oliva Newton-John, and Hank Williams Jr. Many of the performers who work with him choose to do so over and over again, with partnerships spanning 45+ years.
