Yeun was born on 21 December 1983. What comes after that biographical data gets a little complicated. Why? Sources are confused about Steven Yeun’s background. A great example? Wikipedia says he was “born in Seoul, South Korea, to Je and Jun Yeun.” Another section of Wikipedia claims, Yeun “is an American-born South Korean actor.”
Which is correct? In a conversation with Interview magazine, the actor tells his interviewer Oliver Singer,, “My parents are first-generation, and I’m like… in-between because I moved over here when I was four or five.”
Yeun grew up in Troy, Michigan. His passion for acting started at Kalamazoo College; he participated in theater productions and improv. There was just one “problem”. The actor wasn’t studying theatre or acting. Instead, he received a Bachelor’s degree in psychology in 2005.
But during his time at Kalamazoo College, he met Jordan Klepper and would follow him later to a major step forward in Yuen’s acting career.
After graduation, he talked his parents into letting him try acting full time rather than pursuing a career in psychology. Yeun moved to Chicago, Illinois, and followed Jordan Klepper there. That relocation made a huge difference in his acting journey, as we’ll explore in the Career section below.
Yeun married photographer Joana Pak in 2016. The couple has two children. Steven made an important stride with his relocation to Chicago. He moved into the popular Lincoln Square neighborhood there and joined Second City, the legendary midwestern improv group that has launched many careers on the silver screen and television including John Belushi and too many others to name.
Like so many Second City alums, Steven relocated to bigger and better opportunities. While it has been common for some Second City stars to move to New York City and appear in productions like Saturday Night Live, Yeun chose Los Angeles instead. That’s where he landed a guest role on The Big Bang Theory, and not long after, the breakout role he was (in the minds of some) born to play as Glenn on AMC’s The Walking Dead.

At the time of this writing, there is not much information available about the actor’s assets.
