The Financial Troubles of Kim Basinger

Kimila Ann Basinger, simply referred to as Kim Basinger is a famous American actress and singer after being a model. While her life always seemed glamorous and she certainly earns a lot of money in her career, she is not without her financial woes. Let’s take a look at the life and financial troubles of Kim Basinger.

A Successful Career as a Model

For Kim Basinger, it all started out on the runway. She spent five years as a cover girl after she was offered a contract at Ford Modeling Agency. It is rumoured that she earned around $1,000 a day for her modelling. But this was a career that she never enjoyed. In fact, she went as far as to say that she could not stand it. In 1976, Kim decided that she wanted to end her modelling career and move to Los Angeles. This is where her acting career would begin. But she did go on to appear in Playboy and did become famous from her exposure.

Famous for Her Movies

Kim Basinger is a celebrity known for her role in several high grossing movies. For example, a lot of people will recognize her from starring as Vicki Vale in Batman. This movie definitely boosted her profile and she starred in other movies, such as The Marrying Man in 1991 and L.A. Confidential in 1997. She even won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress, as well as a Golden Globe. Other popular movies she starred in include:

  • Never Say Never Again
  • 8 Mile
  • Charlie St. Cloud
  • Fifty Shades Darker

Running into Financial Troubles

Some problems occurred for Kim Basinger when she took on the role in Boxing Helena. She signed a contract to star in the movie. However, she did not honor her commitment and this led to a costly lawsuit. In fact, it was a job that cost her more than $8 million when she lost in court. Previous to this, she seemed to lead a lavish lifestyle. Documents revealed she would spend over $6,000 a month on clothing, as well as $7,000 on pet care and other expenses.

Another problem for Kim Basinger was that she struggled to pay the movie company. As a result of losing the lawsuit, she was forced to sell the town of Braselton, Georgie, which she had previously owned. In 1989, she had bought the town for $20 million. Unfortunately, she lost $19 million, as she was forced to sell up for just $1 million.  As a result, she ended up filing for bankruptcy due to her financial woes.

Was there anything Kim Basinger could have done to avoid filing for bankruptcy? Perhaps if she had been budgeting her finances better, she could have avoided this from happening. While ordinary people would ask questions like; should I get a loan? Is it a good idea to consolidate your debt? Kim Basinger simply could not have predicted losing so much money from that lawsuit. But one thing we did learn is that she did recover from this financial hardship.
