Fans of My 600-Lb. Life have fallen in love with Dr. Younan Nowzaradan, also known as Dr. Now. The good doctor is known for his direct way of dealing with patients who are preparing for weight loss surgery. Throughout the last 13 seasons of the TLC show, he’s made quite the name for himself. So, what is Dr. Now’s net worth? And what is the main source of his money? Here’s what you need to know.

Dr. Now’s Career

Younan Nowzaradan was born on October 11, 1944, in Iran. He is of Assyrian heritage and spent much of his life, prior to earning his degree, in the Middle Eastern country. After graduating from the University of Tehran (Iran) with a Doctor of Medicine degree, he moved to the United States to practice medicine. In 1971, he participated in the Medical Orientation Program at Saint Louis University then went on to complete a Rotating Surgical Internship at St. John Hospital in Detroit.

Since then, he’s been hard at work trying to improve people’s lives with surgery as part of the American College of Surgeons. At this point in time, he is affiliated with Houston Obesity Surgery in Texas. Dr. Now is practicing at several different hospitals in the Houston area. In addition to his work in the operating room, he is the author of several scholarly publications on obesity and laparoscopy.

Of course, most people know Dr. Now from his appearances on TLC’s My 600-Lb. Life. He is frequently shown on the show discussing patients’ health plans. They are given the challenge of losing weight before they are able to undergo bariatric surgery. Outside of his appearances on this show, he has also been on the program Body Shock several times. Dr. Now has also published two books: Last Chance to Live (2017) and The Scale Does Not Lie, People Do (2019).

Personal Life

At one time, Dr. Now was married. He got hitched to Delores McRedmond and the couple was married for 31 years before they decided to divorce in 2004. They share three children. His son, Jonathan Nowzaradan, is a director and producer for My 600-Lb. Life.

What is Dr. Now’s Net Worth?

It is estimated that Dr. Now’s net worth sits around $6 million. This isn’t all that surprising when you consider his profession. The average net worth of most doctors in the United States is about $1 million, with 60% of physicians reporting wealth above that number. That said, his weight loss practice isn’t the only way the doc has been making his money over the years.

As you know, he has also appeared on TLC’s My 600-Lb. Life. On the show, he is a consultant for the morbidly obese individuals who are looking to lose weight and turn their lives around. In some cases, he is able to help the patient improve their health. Others seem dead-set on continuing to eat poorly and he chastises them. Most cast members get paid $1,500 per episode on this particular show, but there isn’t any pay transparency about what Dr. Now makes. It can be assumed he probably makes more than the patients who appear on the program.

Beyond that, Dr. Now has created a Cameo account. Like many other TLC stars, he creates personalized videos for fans. One personal video from the doctor will run you $175+, according to his Cameo page.

Oh, and the doctor has merch! He sells shirts, mugs, and other items with some of his most infamous sayings on them like, “You could have easily lost 30 pounds this month.” He also appears for meet-and-greet events on occasion and has popped up on other networks, including Lifetime.

That said, the bulk of his $6 million wealth stems directly from his work as a doctor, not the show or anything else.
