Friday Life Updates

sunset

Sunset from my deck recently (no filter).

It’s been a while since I’ve done one of these posts, so I thought I’d give everyone a few updates.

Life

A few weeks ago I did a post about deciding whether or not I should get a gym membership,  Ultimately I decided I was too cheap and would take up running instead. I’m happy to report that one month in and I’ve stuck with it so far, running at least 3x/week. It helps immensely that I have a partner in crime. We keep each other motivated. Tonight I really did not want to move but I knew she would be over at 8:45pm to run, so on my shoes went and we managed to get in almost 4k. I’ve already told my husband that I want running shoes for my birthday next month but I may see if the budget allows this purchase early since I’m feeling some pain in my knee (left mainly) and I’m sure a good paid of shoes will ease the problem.

Any tips for newbie runners I could benefit from? I’ve already accepted the first six or so months will be endurance building only and will work on speed later!

Yesterday marked 11 years for hubby and I being together (married four). Wow. Just wow. No special plans, we’re old and married now 🙂

This weekend we’re hoping to get to a cool food truck expo (?) I’m not really sure what to call it but a bunch of food trucks will be together on the waterfront available to try their food. I’m quite looking forward to it. Love me some good eats!

Blog

I feel like I need some help with the ‘ol blog but haven’t search any out yet because I don’t know what I need yet. I know I have a bunch of little things to fix or perk but until I sit down to figure it all out myself I don’t know what I’m looking for. I just feel like I need some time freed up- Experts, what’s the best way to help free time up and accomplish annoying little tasks without breaking the bank? I don’t even know what I need!

I’m writing fr 3.5 other sites right now (the 0.5 comes from occasional post on co-owned site from other main freelance gig) and enjoying all of them. They’re all a little different and I like the diversity. Having said this I’ll just put it out there that I’m available to take on more freelance gigs if anyone is looking!

What are every one else’s weekend plans? Please tell me I won’t be the only one stuffing my face?

  1. Happy Friday! That food truck expo sounds delicious, you’ll have to tell me which one was your favourite!

I know what you mean with the “little” things that need to be done with the blog. I have so many little tasks that need to be completely, I really should sit down and make a list of them.

  2. Awesome that you’ve taken up running. I’ve been at it for nearly three years now and will be completing in my second marathon next weekend. I can’t tell you how important it is to have a quality pair of running shoes. It’s one of the things I will not skimp on – they are worth the money. I would suggest doing some reading about shoes beforehand and perhaps going to a specialty running shoe store in your area where they can analyze your foot and your gait. I prefer the Brooks and Asics brands.

Wow good for you with the marathon! Marathon is nowhere near my radar right now! I’ve had food evaluations before so know the importance of good shoes. I also like Asics as well as saucony.

  3. On the running: it’s a cliche, but slow and steady really does win the race. Add intensity and distance gradually to avoid overuse or too-much-too-soon type injuries – getting hurt is going to set you back way farther than slowly adding up your miles, as you can’t train if you’re injured! Be sure to engage in all kinds of training, too. Do hill workouts, intervals, and tempo runs (all at an intensity/distance you’re comfortable with), and don’t forget to get some sort of cross-training AND strength training in there too. You can do bodyweight exercises (like planks and squats) to build your strength anywhere, and if you have a way to swim or bike, try to fit that in once a week as well. Glad to hear you started running and are liking it so far!

  4. I plan to better my site’s loading time and do some work on the HTML codes on my website. Unfortunately, I don’t have any idea how could I edit those. 🙁

  5. Good for you for starting running! I ran for a few years and can tell you that yes, good shoes make all the difference, and you’re right about the first six months being endurance building mostly. Happy anniversary too – 11 years – that’s awesome! Can’t help you on the blog stuff, as I am still so new myself, but there are many experts out there that would happily lend advice, I’m sure. Have a great weekend!

11 years is a long time! I think I need to figure out what I need, talk to a few more people and go from there, so much to do!

  6. Congrats on 11 years! That is amazing! And the Food Truck Expo sounds like my perfect weekend 🙂

  8. Awesome work on the running front. I enjoy it from time to time though I haven’t been as intense with it as I’d wish. Secondly, congrats on your “being together” anniversary, 11 years ain’t a joke and even the old married couples do need a frugal night out, consider it 🙂
On the blogging front, first sit down and think about what you actually need help with, is it the design, the writing etc. List this things down. from there you can look around the blogging community for people expert in those areas who can lend a helping hand.

For freeing up your time I would recommend hiring a VA. Check out sites like Odesk and am sure you can get someone to help you out within your budget. And the best part, you can set the number of hours they can help you out in a week to keep the budget in check. Treat them well and you’ll be more than amazed at what they can do (from experience 🙂 )

  9. Great job keeping up with running! I’ve heard a lot about having the right pair of shoes making a world of difference. My boyfriend really likes Asics. I got a pair for walking and they’re very comfortable. Congratulations on 11 years, that’s so amazing! The food truck expo sounds really yummy. Enjoy your weekend!

  10. Running is a great way to relieve stress. It can really help with things and make you feel better about everything. I really need to start running again.
