My parents, who were married in 1943, had a joint account and separate accounts. But not for any of the reasons noted here. It was so money wasn’t tied up in the event of death.

  2. Recovering from an abusive relationship I disagree with you.

We are talking marriage I assume…

Joint account yes…you are a partnership and should be communicating together along with respecting each other.

Separate account, not wrong at all if you both agree to it. If you both decide how much or % of your income goes into the account. And how you intend to use it. YES communication and acceptance!

If you want to buy a new living room set…I would hope your spouse gets a say in that!!

And if you are in an abusive relationship – yes to separate so you can go seek legal help and save yourself!

I and my wife have a joint account. So far, we haven’t yet encountered problems, but we still have a separate bank account that both of us know.

  4. I and my husband use a combination of these and we know about this and agreed on this. So far, it really helps us manage our own money and has thought to be more responsible.
