I hope everyone had an amazing long weekend! I spend the weekend with family and friends. Some of our best friends got married on Saturday which was a great time. In case you missed it, I celebrated my first blogoversary this weekend as well. They say the first year is the hardest so here’s hoping to many more! Thanks to everyone for the great comments and well wishes
I’ve mentioned in my recent post about wanting everything that one of the things I want is a gym/rec center membership.
Growing up, we had a membership to a rec center (gym/pool/squash courts/olympic pool/ice rinks/100082920 classes) and it was amazing. I used it all the time and missed it when I moved out and couldn’t afford it on my own. Shortly after I graduated I got a Goodlife membership (gym only) which I used for a year and cancelled because I couldn’t justify the money spent and I liked the idea of a rec center membership more than a ”gym” membership.
I’m at a point that I need something in my life. I miss the gym but I need you to help me with your comments about what you think on the topic so hear me out!
I’d like to get a membership to the same rec center eventually for the whole family. As kiddo gets a little older I know we would use it often but for now, though the pool would be nice, I’m most missing the gym. Family rec center membership is NOT happening right now, way too expensive. When we pay off our debt we will get one.
I have a good quality treadmill at home I can use, and do when the weather is crappy and we can’t walk outside…though not as often as I could/should.
I specifically miss the diversity of cardio equipment plus access to weights and classes. Treadmill=boring everyday.
I don’t have anything of my own. What I mean is that I’m a mom (and a wife) and my life revolves around my family. I NEVER get out of the house alone. I get out but it’s usually with my family or friends. We do everything with my family, by choice, but it would be nice to have an hour or so a day without anyone else. I like the idea of putting her to bed and leaving the house, alone, for a little bit.
I could do classes with my friends and sister-in-law if I had a membership.
My professional membership allows me to get a Goodlife membership for 60% off. After taxes I’d be paying $34/month. I have to confirm the details, but I think a stipulation of this is that I abide by their corporate calendar (Nov 15-Nov 15) and pay in full either for year (or pro-rated amount if you sign-up after the Nov 15 cut-off date) which means I’m committed for a year (but could do month-to-month after the first year). (Update: Normal price is $35 bi-weekly. As well, I would have access to any location within Canada)
I’ve had memberships in the past and gone literal months without using it though feel like I’m in a different mental spot now. I need a mom-release.
Oh, hey, I’m in debt too. Do I spend the money?
Money invested in health now=cash savings in the future? Can this be a legit argument?
So friends, what are your honest opinions. Should I do it or should I save the $34/month?
